solid post, I like your site too. I might also add the following to a list of good design traits, for starters:

Participation: trusting users enough to allow them to participate in a design enough to build community around an online product or service.

User-Centered Design - not the traditional kind, rather a devotion to the end user they can feel. For example, allowing the user some preference in the way the site works for them with close attention to the user's environment, ie; browser/os. Includes the accessibility you mention above.

Multiple paths to goal content - meaning the user determines their path through a site. This isn't always appropriate for sites that rely heavily on sales funnels for their sustainability but can be more appropriate for sites that rely on community.

Simply put good web design drives up traffic and extends the range of visitors you can reach.

The benefits of good web site design are best epitomised by considering the value of accessibility to and usability by your potential visitors

If your web site has achieved high levels of both accessibility and usability it can bring greater reach, provide a more satisfactory experience and lead to a better return on your Internet investment.

It relies on considering the following areas:

    * Discovery
          o A well designed web site that conforms to good practice in terms of its technical design is much more likely to be found and indexed by the search engines and, consequently, by potential visitors. Unfortunately many sites fail in many ways to comply with these requirements
    * Access
          o A site that takes into consideration the many ways in which a visitor may try to access the site increases greatly the chances of getting and retaining that visitor. Browser compatibility is just one issues as you should now consider the viability of publishing for WAP, Digital TV and other media.
    * Usability
          o If a site is easy to use and easy to navigate then your visitor will be comfortable and more likely to find the information they want which will, potentially lead to a sale.
    * Site maintenance
          o Is much easier if the site is correctly designed. Design approaches and best practice actively help to reduce the time (and therefore cost) of maintaining your site - this is doubly true where Content Management is used to help in maintenance.

Rad Rick, that would be super helpful. Jules has been creating the flyers but I may try and help her out or better yet, since Chris will be presenting, maybe he'll want to create a special flyer for the event. Just thinking out loud as usual.

Sounds good, just give me a good lead in ;)

I've updated some of the CSS already, so it's a little easier to read. I'm combing thru the CSS file, and removing the small fonts. Should be done shortly.

Hmm, I think I'll volunteer to work on the CSS for this site! I really don't like that everything is the same size, even headings! It makes it really hard to use.

And I suppose I could update the site, that's easy enough :)

Ahh, yeah I'm adding the feed to Mozilla right now, but it's acting weird.

If you've got a mailing list, please put me on it. I'd definitely like to attend the next meeting.

aloha Chris, great to hear from you! We have about a dozen or so email addresses from the mhug.com days. I'll make sure to get the word out better next time. I'm stoked the flyers worked well -bg ups to Julie Sanderson for helping make that happen. Not sure when the next mtg will be but we'll be sure and send an email as soon as we set a date.

I'll paste this into an email in case you're not subscribed to the comments feed.

Hey Brent, I used to be in the Macromedia User Group you started a while back. I meant to come to this weeks meeting, but I totally spaced it. Do you have a mailing list set up to remind people about the meetings? That's the main reason I stopped coming to the MMUG meets, because I'd forget when the meetings were.

Glad to see you're still around, I saw your flyer outside Big Island Art & Glass. Hope to see you again soon.
