This is the must-attend user group meeting of the year.

The Adobe User Group and the Sustainable Web Community will be combined. We’ll get started at 6pm.

We’ll feature an Introduction to WordPress (6:00pm) for beginners and an advanced marketing and design class for experts (7:00pm).

Bring your laptops for the step by step portions of the classes. Bring your friends, business partners, webmasters school teachers and anyone you think will listen. This is more important than a regular class. We’ll be providing instruction to help you sustain yourself and your business in tough economic times.

Join us in strengthening our digital economies. WordPress is part of the platform that we help us all improve our abilities to thrive.

WordCamp Hawaii 2008 Update

Okay, we’re looking at a possible date in late October. We’re coordinating this year’s plans with a group of folks on Oahu. Of course they have bigger plans than we’ve discussed including a Podcamp integration. Maybe with their support we can coordinate something larger than we could have by ourselves.

We’re gathering subscribers. So if you’re interested in helping on a committee or just subscribing to the mailing list, please shoot me a note or use the form below. Indicate your level of interest and whether you want to receive project updates during the planning stages of the event.

Three organizational bullets on our end so far:

Possible live component between islands -not yet proposed to Oahu group
Acrobat (Breeze) Connection from UHH/HCC or HICH
Idea for a inter-island raffle

Sustainable Web Design Discussion

Hele Mai, Sustainable Web Design Meeting of the Minds. At this week’s Big Island Adobe User Group meeting, we’ll be holding our first of a series of sustainable web design discussions.

Specifically we’ll be addressing the following questions:

What is sustainable web design?
What makes a website sustainable?
How can you create a website that is sustainable?
How can you use a sustainable web design to sustain yourself using the web as a platform?

All these question and more will be addressed at the meeting on Tuesday at 5:30. Click the “Next Meeting” link at the top of the page for more details.

Immediately following the Big Island Adobe User Group meeting there will be a Blogging Class for Big Island Blog Network Members. The class is free to Big Island Blog Network Members. Hawai`i United Industries – Tuesday Jan 22nd at 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Lots of creatives getting together to build something bigger. There will be a presentationÂ on why this might be a good idea for you. Joining theÂ HUI (Hawai`i United Industries) means saving money on marketing, getting higher paid gigs and working less at finding better jobs. Employers, contractors and educators will all be present.

Free Blogging Class at University of Hawai`i Hilo Conference Center

Aloha Workshops will be offering a free blogging class on August 30th at Hawai`i Community College in the Hale Aloha Conference room. Directions to to Hale Aloha Conference room.

Why blogs are effective marketing tools.
How to use blogs for business.
Why blogs are important to the Big Island

Aloha Workshops will present a free blogging class for beginners. Expert bloggers will also benefit as advanced search engine optimization techniques for your blog will be shared. Any and all questions are always welcomed.

Step by step instructions will be part of the presentation so bring your laptop. If you do not have a blog, a blog will be given to you to use during the class. We want you to know how to post in a blog before you leave. If you bring your laptop youâ€™ll have that post done before you leave.

Adobe CS3 eSeminars for Web Professionals

Here’s something I got in my inbox a couple of weeks ago, and lost in the shuffle. Adobe is offering some free online eSeminars for Web Professionals that you can sign up for on their web site. They’ve also got eSeminars for Video Professionals if that’s more along the lines of your interest.

Keaau Youth Business Center Grand Opening

The Keaau Youth Business Center had it’s Grand Opening on Saturday. Something like five bands helped kick it off. Kepono Kekuewa was there from Apple’s Hawaii HiEdÂ and of course Moon Brown, one of the creators of the program was there -playing saxophone.

Funded by grant money and powered by aloha, the Keaau Youth Business Center is a great place for kids to pick up digital and culinary arts that otherwise might not be able to. This is will be a real jump start for many and I’ve already heard some pretty exciting success stories from the program.

Look for more soon from these folks. They’re making it happen in the Big Island of Hawaii digital design, video and culinary arts scene. Sorry I didn’t get everyone’s name but I’ll be back to learn more and meet more of the folks that are behind the magic.

Tech Talk 2007 on Oahu Focused on Technology Education in Hawai`i

Bill Cullifer and I met John Blumhardt from theÂ Honolulu Community College Educational Media Center at Windward Community College for a day of Tech Talk (Event PDF). Our presentations focused on Technology Eduation in Hawai`i. My presentation focused on the changing roles and responsibilities associated with web 2.0. Mahalo KeponoÂ (Apple, Inc.), great presentation!

Many mahalos to theÂ local press and schools for promoting the event. Many thanks to Windward Community College for being a great host. Thanks also to all the educators in attendance. Thanks also to the WCC newspaper and the other news organizations that covered the event. Super special thanks to Bill Cullifer and the World Organization of Webmasters for picking up the tab.

I’ll cover the highlights at the March mtg.

Adobe MAX Conference

I’ll have plenty of information for anyone interested at the next meeting. We’ve also got some Action Script 3 DOM posters coming from our fearless leaders at Adobe. Thanks again Ed and Christine for being great hosts. The Community forum you put together was a great time and insightful to say the least. Great Big Mahalo!
